Just had a conversation about this the other day. I agree, I would NOT want to lose my Adobe suite, a lot of money and all so nicely integrated!

I know nothing about it but i've wanted to start using a Linux distro for a very, very long time now. The only thing is, I can't stand GIMP; and Inkscape is okay for what it is ... Free. I hear there is also an opensource layout program but I shudder at the thought for some reason [brrr]. And from what I've heard WINE makes you do just that, and A LOT.

My next system will be Mac.
It IS expensive and all, but oh so worth it! Everything about the OS is so smooth and lightning fast. Adobe Premier is just incredible on even the Macbook, compared to a Vista laptop.

UBUNTU is a really stable OS (so I hear) but still has a ways to go to enter a designer's market. In my personal opinion.

BTW, great site!

Cheers

I'd say go for it. You know you want to. Just do it. Using wine to run the few Windows apps you still need does not defeat the purpose because you will at least be able to start learning to use Linux, which I really think is the future of computing. Wine has received a lot of help lately and is now able to run Photoshop CS2 quite well. There are ways to make CS3 and Dreamweaver if you look around a little. See here for example:

As for video, I can't help you since I don't do any Video editing.

As for my favorite Linux distro, I have to say that it is PCLinuxOS. Definitely give it a try.

I hope it goes well for you. ;)
